Drag racing

I've had a love for drag racing from the first time I was taken to Avon Park dragstrip by a friend of my Dad's. That was it no turning back. You wont find any in depth explanation of drag racing here or and rule and regulations just a few bits an bobs about what it means to me.

For those of you who have never been drag racing or had the pleasure to see it on television let me tell you it is one of the most addictive things ever known.

The first time I ever lined a car up on a drag strip I was scared out of my skin. But after that first run that was it I was hooked.

Imagine yourself sitting in the car you drive everyday looking down a dead straight and dead flat piece of tarmac in front of you. Your sole purpose in life becomes getting to the other end of that ¼ mile strip of tarmac as fast as you possibly can. You’re scared “should I be doing this?” you ask yourself. Crash helmet on you pull into staging and up comes the first red light to let you know you are close to the start line, you slowly roll forward and up comes another red light. This is it, you’re ready to go. You bring up the revs bring the clutch up so its almost biting. You wait for the lights to drop, bang bang bang three sets of yellow lights then the up comes the green. You nail your foot to the floor slam the clutch up and you’re off, you go into auto pilot gripping the steering wheel for dear life and at the same time managing to change gear and operate the pedals. You cross the finish line and slowly lift off the throttle, heat banging a fierce beat inside your head. For a moment you consider your sanity, but then you quickly join the back of the queue and line up for yet another run. It has been said that drag racing is more addictive then heroin. I can believe that!
